In this thread I am going to vent my frustration of some of the school rules at my school.. Firstly, i am not one of those people who constantly rebels, sits at the back of the class, never does their work and disrespects teachers..I am just someone who thinks schools have rules which don't make any sense and are complete bullshit.
Firstly, the fact that ipods and mobiles are not allowed is ridiculous. I can understand not allowing phones during class since your meant to be working. But lunch time is our FREE time. Another thing how come teachers are allowed to answer their mobiles during class time? Sure we are the ones who are meant to be listening or working, but they are meant to be teaching right? SHouldn't they lead by example? Ipods should be allowed during class and lunch.. I mean teachers wine about kids talking too much in class, yet if they allowed ipods then the kids would concentrate better on their work and listen to their music rather than talk all the time. There is absolutely no excuse for ipods not being allowed at lunch. However at my school most teachers don't care about students listening to them at lunch, some even allow them in class..But there are still the uptight power hungry teachers that would confiscate them. They say these rules are in place because students can lose them and blame the school...Hey guess what? That's no reason.. A while ago I went to my aunt and uncles house. When we went to leave I could not find my mobile phone.. Did my uncle ban people from bringing them in to his house? No. Did I hold my aunt and uncle responsible? no... (Yes I got it back, turns out I dropped it under their couch LOL)
Another thing with the mobiles.. I got a story that happened only today.. At school I study Media and we are studying photography using film SLR cameras and developing the film. Now when you develop film you have to load it onto a reel and put it in like a bucket called a "developing tank" Then what you do is first you pour developing chemicals in and you have to develop it for usually 8:30 minutes.. You have to turn the tank consistently for the first 30 seconds, then once a minute. So of course you have to time it so you don't stuff it up. My media class room is in a three storey building of the school, it is on the first floor..Now since there were people in the dark room doing different things, our teacher told us to do the developing on the ground floor where there is taps and a sink. So we did and since there were no stop watches and not everyone had a watch, one guy decided to use his phones as a timer. We were developing right, and a teacher comes up.. "Give me the phone" and he tries to explain that it is for a class and it was clear all he was doing is using the timer, but the teacher did not care. Then my teacher came down and tried to get the teacher to give him the phone back since he was only using it for class purposes. But the teacher refused the stupid idiot.
Secondly to be allowed to use the toilets during class we have to ask permission. This is not bad as such since teachers need to know where students are, however alot of teachers say no. Now in the work place the boss has no right to refuse employees RIGHT to go to the toilet.. and yes, going to the toilet is a RIGHT... They say it is because alot of students stuff around and don't actually go to the toilet..But so what? If they are caught mucking around, give em a detention or something..big deal.
These are just stupid. Schools should simply be a place to learn and socialize not a place where tight ass rules are pounded on students. No wonder so many students hate school. If stupid rules with no reasoning weren't in place there would not be so many rebellious kids, not be so many kids who hate school so much.. if only they allowed a little bit of freedom it would be heaps better.
One more thing, teachers demand respect. Ok I can understand why they don't want to be disrespected, however people should only COMMAND respect not DEMAND it. Respect is something that is to be earned. Plus if we are expected to respect them they should be expected to respect us.
Another thing (this is the last one i promise) All some teachers do is fucking judge people over small things such as not doing the work or not paying attention in class. A good friend of mine who used to go to my school but she was asked to leave. She was kinda lazy and didn't do the work, used to talk a little too much in class. Some teachers hated her and disrespected the hell out of her because of it. They treated her as if she treated everyone like shit but she didn't, she is a good person. That is why she was asked to leave, teachers complained about how much they hated her just because she doesn't do what they expect and everyone who doesn't do what teachers respect is labelled a rebel who needs to be dealt with..anyway, Teachers complained, coordinator told her to leave or she would be kept down..Pathetic..
