The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday USC coach Pete Carroll announced after practice Barkley would start in place of redshirt sophomore Aaron Corp. Corp filled in while Barkley sat out USC's loss to the unranked Washington Huskies with a bruised shoulder.

Corp struggled in the loss, throwing an interception and completing 13-of-22 passes for 110 yards. It marked the fourth straight year the Trojans have lost to an unranked team.

Barkley started USC's first two games and was injured during an 18-15 win over then-No. 8 Ohio State on Sept. 12.

Barkley participated in parts of Tuesday's practice after splitting time with Corp on Monday. The true freshman said he still felt discomfort in his shoulder and lacked velocity on his throws.

"I don't really have any zip on it yet," Barkley said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
