RD: The Undertaker's streak 16-0!!!
Posted by Raging Demons on 03/21/2009 at 08:05 AM
It's "The Road To Wrestlemania" time once again. When story lines are put to the limit. Certain story lines are crammed down our throats to the point we are puking ad nauseum, the stars (well this year WWE doesn't have any stars this time around, except for Mickey Rourke), you name it. Also added are the traditional Wrestlemania moments like the "Money In The Bank" Ladder Match. But there's one tradition that has, well me personally, everybody wondering from time-to-time.
I'm talking about Undertaker's undefeated streak at Wrestlemania. Now generally speaking a wrestlers undefeated win streak is mostly a gimmick in order to make him look good as a monster ("Monster"=unstoppable) good guy or a bad guy. But sometimes a streak can be legit and the promotion must stick to the streak. Goldberg's win streak is a great example of this. At first Goldberg was just doing his job then someone noticed that not only he was doing good, he was doing real good! So WCW stuck with the streak as long as they could. Same thing as Undertaker. Ever since his Wrestlemania debut at Wrestlemania 7, Undertaker has not lost a match and has provided quality entertainment for us the fans.
We're going to take a different look at the undefeated streak. History lesson time. Like what WWE does around this time we're going to take a look at Undertaker's Wrestlemania's undefeated win streak, their opponents, and where they are right now!
Let's start off with...
Wrestlemania VII: Undertaker d. "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka
Then: The "Superfly" tried for a comeback career in the wakes of "Superfly Billy Graham". But this time around he's a savage Samoan.
Now: Believe it or not Snuka is STILL wrestling! Wrestled in indies here and there. Even was a manager for his son (better known as Sim Snuka). Snuka was inducted in the WWE Hall Of Fame in 1996. Now he appears in random WWE skits or matches now and then. Just recently Snuka was attacked in an interview segment when Chris Jericho used a re-creation of the classic "Piper's Pit" set on Snuka. Snuka, along with other WWE Legends "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, & manager "Nature Boy" Ric Flair will wrestle Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 25.
Wrestlemania VIII: Undertaker d. Jake "The Snake" Roberts
Then: Master of in-ring psychology and at times one of the most evil heels around. Jake wanted to really screw with Undertaker.
Now: How the mighty have fallen. After leaving WWE then coming back as a born-again Christian his push was killed thanks to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin creating "Austin 3:16". After that his inner demons took over his life. With a major drug dependence Roberts slowly became really unstable and hard to hire. He was featured in "Beyond The Mat" and due to that movie got hired in a lot of promotions. Then there came the legendary "Heroes of Wrestling" PPV where Roberts was completely stoned out of his mind where the big high light was using his snake as a surrogate penis. Roberts took WWE's offer of any former employee past and present can go into drug rehab that WWE will pay for. Roberts was clean for awhile, even posting reviews of RAW on his MySpace Page. Until October 2008 when he was caught on film at an indy event looking very intoxicated. Roberts claimed to this day he was "drugged" at that event.
Wrestlemania IX: Undertaker d. Giant Gonzales by DQ
Then: Stolen from WCW. Giant Gonzales was a 7-foot wrestler dressed in a body suit that looked like...a muscle suit? It should be noted that this was the only victory Undertaker won by DQ.
Now: Well only thing he did good was signing a WWE Legends contract with Jakks so they can create a figure of him. Else...not good. Mostly recognized as one of the biggest disasters in the ring. His health hasn't been very well as of late since he is now wheel-chair ridden thanks to his size.
Undertaker wasn't in Wrestlemania X due to injury.
Wrestlemania XI: Undertaker d. King Kong Bundy
Then: Known as one of the most vicious big "fat" men. Bundy did heinous things like squashing midgets for example. Known for bringing in the "Avalanche" running splash and making referees count to 5.
Now: Bundy still wrestles today in certain indy promotions. Bundy also got some serious screen time on TV & movies. My favorites were the two appearances he made on "Married With Children"
Wrestlemania XII: Undertaker d. Diesel
Then: Former Bodyguard of Shawn Michaels, Diesel becomes the main good guy of WWE.
Now: Where shall I begin with Kevin "Diesel" Nash? Appeared in a LOT of TV & movies (most notable in "The Punisher" & "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze"). Then he apparently left WWE to some wrestling promotion called WCW and started "The Outsiders" with former WWE employee Scott Hall, which started something called "The nWo." After WCW went bankrupt and bought out by WWE Nash was on WWE programming for a bit. Nash then moved to TNA where he messed around with the X-Division & having feuds with Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe. Most recently he's a part of TNA's main event "bad guy" group "The Main Event Mafia" but he's on the sidelines right now due to a severe Staph Infection.
Wrestlemania 13: Undertaker d. Sycho Sid
Then: Looney nutball Sid just loved hurting people. This would be one of three matches for a World Title (he wrestled for the WWE Title) and one of five matches that was a stipulation match since this match was a "No DQ" match.
Now: Sid Vicious wrestled in ECW then back in WCW. Probably most remembered for breaking for his leg LIVE on WCW Nitro which was at that time one of the most gruesome injuries ever to happen on live TV. Vicious enjoyed retirement for a bit then wrestled in a couple of indy promotions. Rumor has it that Sid Vicious is trying to get back in WWE.
Wrestlemania XIV: Undertaker d. Kane
Then: Undertaker's brother mysteriously appears clad in a mask from injuries that Undertaker somehow caused. Kane would be the only person to appear in the streak twice.
Now: Then Kane was masked and wearing a wig. Now Kane STILL wrestles in WWE. Kane has even won the ECW World Title which looked like during his career that he would never win a World Title ever again. Kane, along with fellow "Streak" loser Mark Henry, will be a part of the annual "Money In The Bank" match at Wrestlemania 25 this year.
Wrestlemania XV: Undertaker d. The Big Bossman
Then: Former prison guard turned security enforcer. The Big Bossman liked beating people up for money. This is the second of five matches that was a stipulation match since this match was a "Hell In A Cell" match.
Now: After wrestling for years in WWE. Ray "The Big Bossman" Traylor was sent to OVW to train new wrestlers. Then when WWE fired him He went to Japan for a high profile title tournament. Sadly Ray Traylor died of a heart attack in Sept. 22, 2004.
Undertaker was injured for Wrestlemania 16 A.K.A. Wrestlemania 2000.
Wrestlemania X-Seven: Undertaker d. Triple H
Then: Part of the "McMahon-Helmsley era". "The Game" would flaunt his influence on WWE by doing whatever he want.
Now: Hrm...Triple H is still wrestling in WWE & he won more World Titles. Reunited his old stable "D-Generation X" while creating another one "Evolution". Oh and he married Vince McMahon's daughter, the head of WWE Creative Stephanie McMahon. In an interesting set of events for this year's Wrestlemania WWE actually made it public Triple H's marriage to Stephanie McMahon. Triple H will be defending the WWE Title versus fellow "Streak" member Randy Orton this year.
Wrestlemania X8: Undertaker d. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair
Then: Ring legend Ric Flair returns as "co-owner" of RAW. And somehow Undertaker ends up fighting him. This is the third of five matches that was a stipulation match since this match was a "No DQ" match.
Now: Flair hasn't changed much. Well there's his divorce from his wife, his bankruptcy, his road rage incident, getting in trouble with the law because of his daughter, & his business "Ric Flair Financial" going bankrupt for starters. Flair was inducted in the 2008 WWE Hall Of Fame and retired at Wrestlemania 24. Since his retirement Flair was asked to be released from his WWE Legends contract, managed to do some autograph signings, and even did some lectures to some young pro wrestlers about the business. Ric Flair will be in the corner of fellow WWE Legends "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, and fellow "Streak" member "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka versus Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 25.
Wrestlemania XIX: Undertaker d. The Big Show & The A-Train
Then: Kinda grumpy when Big Show lost a Royal Rumble qualifying match thanks to Brock Lesnar, Big Show teams up with The A-Train to take out Undertaker. This is the fourth of five matches that was a stipulation match since this match was a "Handicap" match.
Now: Let's start off with The Big Show: Big Show wrestled in WWE for a bit. Went to ECW to become World Champ and the only person ever to win the ECW, WWE, and WCW World Titles. Quit WWE. Wrestled in a couple of indy shows but mostly it was to train to become a boxer. Most recently Big Show will wrestle for the World Heavyweight Title versus John Cena & Champion Edge in a Triple Threat Match at Wrestlemania 25. Next is The A-Train: A-Train wrestled in WWE for awhile before being released. Wrestled in the indy promotions for a year. Currently A-Train is in Japan wrestling in their major promotions.
Wrestlemania XX: Undertaker d. Kane
Then: Kane (now without mask and wig) being royally hoarked off at Undertaker for loosing his way. Kane takes out Undertaker before Wrestlemania. This match would bring Undertaker back. This is the second time Kane wrestled Undertaker at Wrestlemania and is the only person that appears twice in the streak.
Now: See Wrestlemania XIV
Wrestlemania 21: Undertaker d. Randy Orton
Then: "The Legend Killer" that is Randy Orton wanted to add Undertaker to his list of Legends that he "defeated".
Now: "Everybody's Favorite Douchebag" is still being a douchebag. Only difference then and now is Orton is married and has his own stable of wrestlers called "The Legacy". Randy Orton will be wrestling for the WWE Title versus fellow "Streak" member Triple H at Wrestlemania 25.
Wrestlemania 22: Undertaker d. Mark Henry
Then: "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry wanted to show Undertaker who rules the ring so he tried to take him out. This is a revenge match. This is the final of five matches that was a stipulation match since this match was a "Casket" match.
Now: Mark Henry is still with WWE, and with most fans that's like trying to kill a cockroach with a nuclear bomb. Caused a lot of controversy last year when Henry tried to sue WWE for racial discrimination when WWE Creative member Michael Hayes called him a "racial slur". Henry won the ECW World Title. Currently he has a manager in the form of WWE Hall Of Fame member Tony Atlas and will be a part of the annual "Money In The Bank" match along with fellow "Streak" member Kane at Wrestlemania 25.
Wrestlemania 23: Undertaker d. Batista.
Then: Undertaker winning The Royal Rumble chooses Batista, the World Champion, to a World Heavyweight Title Match. This would be the second of three matches for a World Title (he wrestled for the World Heavyweight Title)
Now: Not much as of late. Batista right now is sitting on the sidelines because he suffered an injury so he'll be watching Wrestlemania 25 at home.
Wrestlemania 24: Undertaker d. Edge
Then: Winning an "Elimination Chamber Match" at last year's PPV "No Way Out". Undertaker earned the right to wrestle Edge, the World Champion, to a World Heavyweight Title Match. Unfortunately it would be a problem because Edge is married to Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero and was the leader of the wrestling stable "La Familia". And Edge was exploiting that marriage for his own personal benefit. This would be the final of three matches for a World Title (he wrestled for the World Heavyweight Title).
Now: Edge was "sent to hell" to take some time off. But when he came back he got a WWE Title win and he's recently the World Heavyweight Champion. Edge will be defending the World Heavyweight Title versus John Cena & fellow "Streak" member The Big Show at Wrestlemania 25.
16 Men. 16 Wins. All of them somewhat legends in the ring that are now a part of the streak. "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels right now is the man that will try to break the streak this year. Rumors have it that Michaels could be the person that can actually end the streak. Will it happen? Or will Shawn Michaels be a part of The Streak?
Buy the PPV to find out.

"Doctor Death" Steve Williams needs a very expensive piece of medical equipment to make his life easier. It's about the price of a new car. Wrestler's Rescue is asking not only for cash donation but they plan to hold a fundraiser full of donated wrestling memorabilia.
