There have been a lot of people saying what ever killed WCW.The real reason WCW died was mismanagement pure and simple. The people from time warner wanted the ratings for Nitro and Thunder turned around in a week so they where for ever changing the creative staff so no one new what the heck was going thus WCW died IMO.

It was also due to the fact that they just tried too hard. The shock effect was great at first, but after a while how could they top it?

Exactly Oldschool thats another part of the mismanagement. They tried I don't know how many times to recreate the NWO and failed each time.
overpriced talent also killed wcw, and not pushing young talent as much as they were pushing the top stars, hogan, nash, steiners etc, losing wrestlers like austin, jericho, benoit, HHH, mick foley., eddie guerrero.

Another great example of mismanagement Kong

It wasn't just one thing, it was many things that ultimately led to the demise of WCW, from management, booking, throwing money around, the power plays behind the scenes by some of the top talent, and the fact they didn't try to make talent, like WWF did, they were just too busy trying to up WWF in Monday Night ratings, didn't worry about the PPV's, just the Nitro's just to name a few things

Everything you just mentioned stingerfan also goes to management. In other words there was to much of the higher ups only looking out for certian things and ignore others.

Everything you guys mentioned can be put under mis managent as well.Believe itor not Eric Bishoff had a point in his book.In WCW the right hand never new what the left hand was doing and vice versa and it only got worse when AOL and Time Warnr merged. The AOL people wanted the ratings for the WCW tv shows to rise over night and when it didn't they changed things making bad situation worse.

Also, many top guys, such as Bret Hart, were getting injured and WCW failed to compensate for their misfortunes. Yet another example of mismanagement, and also the prime reason I stopped watching WCW and went to being a fan of WWE.

ahh now here is a topic I love talking about if I were to pick 2 things that killed WCW it would be politics and horrible management
When I talk politics I'm talking about Hulk Hogan he helped the company yet he killed it at the same time. Before Hogan arrived in WCW ratings and attendence were low once he arrived they got attention unfortunately for WCW while they were getting ratings and stronger Hogan was slowly killing it (later on kevin Nash Sid Vicious and Goldberg would also help with killing it) backstage the other wrestlers weren't doing shit because they couldn't. Hogan had WCW in his hands. I would call 1996-97 the best period and 1998 the declining year because while 98 started out well it got old really quick and the ratings were declining WCW in 1999 was just bad because we saw the wrestlers refusing to put younger stars over so they repackage themselves(e.g. randy savage,Hulk Hogan, rick steiner ) so they don't put people over. What does this result in ?by early 2000 they lose their backbone in Eddie Guerrero,Dean Malenko,Chris Jericho, perry Saturn and Chris Benoit. Not too long after they leave WCW finally rids themselves of Hulk Hogan but unfortunately its too late and WCW still had big egos backstage and didn't use authority. politics had a big hand in killing WCW without a doubt the same shit sucks especially when their competition is the WWF in the attitude era seriously thats a no brainer when it comes to which show to watch.
the terrible management is also to blame because wrestlers were missing shows and stilll were getting paid without any consequences. It was as if nothing happened seriously they were losing money and didn't do shit about it.

I don't believe that Russo killed it but he would have killed any company he was running as sucks and has used up all of his tricks.

In my mind the thing that killed WCW will be the same thing that eventually kills TNA, Terrible writing. One thing that the WWE has always had over the competitors is superior writing which in turn makes it more enjoyable to watch. WCW had the better pure wrestlers but didn't promote it properly with a solid storyline. Just look at the careers of Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerro, once they moved to the WWE they had one of the best feuds I have ever seen and in turn catapulted their careers. WCW hit a home run with NWO but it went on for way too long when they started running out of ideas from the writers. TNA needs to learn from WCW's mistakes or I see it failing in a similar fashion to WCW.

There's a difference though, unlike WCW, TNA is actually doing the WWE style storylines, segments, and interviews. And as with WWE storylines, some of the ones TNA comes up with are good, others bomb

I agree with u all the way on that oldie
true, they have learned about the value of good writing. one of the dumbest moves of WCW was when they let go Benoit, Guerrero, Jericho, Malenko and Saturn. they gave Vince a solid mid card at the time and eventually Benoit, Eddie and Chris became great stars

The thing that killed WCW for the most part is already written for us to see. The sad thing is, I miss WCW. It was entertaining for a long time and sometimes it just feels like there isn't much else out there. Except TNA and sometimes that doesn't feel like that big of a replacement at all.

Yeah...
it really, during the monday nite wars, made the best era for wrestling............the only way to bring that back would be if TNA got some more backing, hired Heyman, put him in Charge and started going after the WWE stars in limbo, and were willing to wait for the 90 day no compete clauses............also signing guys like Lesner, Goldberg, Lashley, Warrior etc [of course for appearences and limited in ring action] that would really put a knot in Vinces shorts

I truly believe that what ultimately killed WCW was the man who assumed control of TNT when Time Warner and AOL merged.
That young man (his name escapes me) didn't know anything about wrestling, had never watched a match in his life, yet in one arbitrary move, axed everything that had to do with WCW.
In one fell swoop, an uneducated youngster, who should never have been made program director, decided that wrestling wasn't worth the hassle, without viewing one snippet of the product he was killing.
SHAME ON HIM!!!

That was a stupid move, they could have made a fortune off of WCW if it had survived...
Welcome here by the way :)
some idiot put in charge of something he didn't have a clue about.........sounds like a set up, if it works, ok.................if it backfires some one unimportant to blame and fire

Me,too, nothing can replace the WCW.Melancholy take me when see in in the past and how fast time flies and several on monsters of wrestling are gone,or have grown old faster than we had expected, or are filled with all sorts of diseases.Somehow Hogan and Bischoff are trying to revive in TNA in another form and with the other wrestlers what had been WCW.A sort of tribute to that period. With what results ?

I'm enjoying TNA - it won't replace WCW, but perhaps it will allow the legacy to live on!
True, and in the spirit of competition we need TNA to make WWE better
