Corner to Corner: Thankfulness

Brief but hopefully effective, today is a day to say thanks. It's never easy to go without saying thanks because the blessings we recieve are indeed plentiful.

Corner to Corner: Thankfulness

Hello everyone and welcome to a special THANKSGIVING edition of Corner to Corner. I am your host Stan Grubb and I am here to say thanks. We'll be a bit abbreviated but that's only because I have some travels to complete and some rest to get before doing so. So without further ado? You guessed it!

HERE

WE

GO!!!

Thankfulness
There are so many things I am thankful for this year. I'm thankful for my family, my job, and the simple fact that I can write for you awesome folks out there. I figured that with a time like this it'd be fitting to say thanks for some things I appreciate in the business we know and love.

1.)Thank you for Main events worth watching. Survivor Series has come and gone and holy cow what a main event? Who could have imagined Shawn Michaels would kick Triple H out of his shoes at the very begining of the match? I realize there is a lot of hate for John Cena and DX, but boys and girls I am sure you were at the edge of your seats while this match went back and forth. For once, John Cena wasn't the superman, even though he won. He had to take a huge amount of abuse and it was more like a last minute gasp of offense than a sudden comeback. The ending was solid, the action maintained, and the combatants are to be commended. That was a true match of the year candidate. Where did they get such inspiration? Well look at TNA and the Turning Point main event! Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, and AJ Styles made for an awesome showing with some action that was phemonenal. I wonder if the WWE writing staff took notes because Lord knows they were busting their asses to top the TNA's triple threat. I will say this, I'd like to see HBK turn on Triple H or John Cena turn in general. I think it's time to make these things happen. It makes good sense to have DX split even if we do know that it will come back again. I mean look, nothing is forever, look at Ric Flair if you're not sure of that.

2.) Thank you for creating new stars such as Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger. These three men have made matches worth watching and highlights worth talking about. First is the obvious Kofi Kingston. By dropping the 'high times' Jamacan gimmick, he has solidified himself as a true player on the main stage. He's not afraid of Randy Orton and he's not afraid to really show his emotions when involved in a feud. I dig that about him. His offense reminds me of Rick Steamboat with maybe some Brian Pillman mixed in. If he can continue to step up with the energized promos and the fast paced movement, he'll find himself in main events real soon.

Jack Swagger is a favorite of mine because he has a look that reminds me of a more brash Kurt Angle with a more brutal style that somewhat reminds me of maybe Steve Williams. The attitude is right, the mic work will need some improvement, but the in ring skill is dead on. What this man really needs is someone to work with. Let's see him mix it up with HBK and Chris Jericho. Show us the wrestler, we can always see mic work get better with time. Hell, look at Brock Lesnar. That man couldn't talk worth a crap on the mic but his in ring technique made us all believers. You mean to tell me Swagger can't pull this off? I beg to differ. Let the man wrestle, I say.

Then we have Evan Bourne. Here is a high flyer we can look in the eyes of everytime he's in pain or triumph. With the impending retirement of Rey Mysterio, we could be looking at one of the few men who could take his place. He's fast, he's charismatic, and he is the most capable cruiserweight I've seen in a good while. If you want to reinstate the Cruiserweight Championship, it'd be a great move to start with this man. He actually shows promise on the mic in the few times he's done it and we already know he can work with almost everyone. I'd love to see him against John Morrison.

3.) Thank you for proving that nothing lasts forever. There are so many examples of this. Look at Ric Flair coming out of 'retirement' if we're not clear. First he says he's done in the ring. Then he's an ambassador. Then he says 'yeah if the money is right I might work overseas.' Now? He's working with Hulk Hogan and quite possibly TNA when they return from overseas. Hey Ric, welcome back. Hey Ric, retire again soon okay? Not to disrespect Ric Flair, but the most intriguing storyline last year was the 'Who will put Ric Flair out' story. I don't care about the Taker's streak or Randy Orton's kick to the McMahons' heads. For the record, I think that stupid punt is the lamest excuse for a heel move I have ever seen. Get real! Anyhow, Flair's work leading into his retirement was energized and interesting to watch. I remember thinking, wow maybe he does still have it. Now he might be on his way to TNA and I have to wonder if he'll work with Sting one more time. Can these two put on another wrestling memory or will they stink up the joint like their bout on the 'Last Nitro Ever?'

Look at the big push for Eric Escobar and Drew McYntire. I mean are we kidding here? These guys SUCK! They got into the Bragging Rights team and it was suddenly a moment where the WWE realized that nobody cared about a couple of guys who had and still have yet to prove anything resembling worth. It's not to say that they won't, but they haven't yet. Drew seems to have this BS accent that one could only imagine came from the genius writers. Eric is involved with Vicki Guerrero as of this writing and really that seems to be the only reason to watch him. His in ring work doesn't quite mesh with the WWE style and I haven't seen one thing in him that I couldn't find in Festus. So what's the deal here?

4.) Thank you for diversity. Looking at Twitter is so much fun on ppv nights and Monday nights. The people I follow and those that follow me on there are so diverse it's amazing. We have Cena haters that would love to see John Cena get gang raped and we have indy fans that would rather see ROH overtake it all than to see another successful WWE pay per view. In truth, I love it all. I think John Cena is disrespected because of how long he's been on top. I loved Ventura's semi-shoot swerve where he got in Cena's face on Raw. It was cool to see them build up the anger for Cena. I would like to say they picked the right guy for #1 CONTENDER but I can't. I can't stand this Sheamus guy and I don't care if Triple H swears he watches every video thirty times before a workout. The man has not only done NOTHING to merit anything close to a push, but he's done nothing but kick jobbers and announcers! His work in ECW was horrible and made no sense at all. How the hell does he go from getting his ass kicked by Goldust to a #1 contender? EXPLAIN THAT please, because I am lost on that. Sheamus, you suck. Stop with the Celtic Warrior crap. Stop with the accent. If you want to impress me, work. Just get in the damn ring and work. Twitter is fun for this reason as well. I love seeing other fans react in such a way where they have to explain it in 140 characters or less. It forces us to think before we type. Well, some of us...
